TOOLS I USED

Problem Space

How might we help the regular internet users, who are frustrated about highly expensive data roaming charges and unreliable poor connection, by providing access to free Wi-Fi hotspot location across a wider area which will give them the freedom to use the internet anytime anywhere and do their work uninterruptedly?

Background

There are nearly 500 million Wi-Fi hotspots and over 2,000,000 recommended free hotspots available worldwide. But not all the available hotspots are relevant for each user. That's why we divided all the hotspots into 4 categories: Free, Paid, Private and Unknown with each type of hotspot having its own advantages.

4 categories of wi-fi hotspots
  • Free Wi-Fi - connect to the hotspot without paying for it

  • Paid Wi-Fi - pay in order to make use of the hotspot

  • Private Wi-Fi - hotspots for private use only companies or homes

  • Unknown Wi-Fi - hotspots which haven't been categorized yet

Convenience Factor

The costs of using mobile data abroad are increasing and the amount of Wi-Fi hotspots around the world is exponentially growing.

Current Scenarios:

Based on research and experience, we could define specific problems of internet users. The costs of mobile data high but money doesn't assure the quality service. While traveling staying connected is a big deal. Lot of users experience unreliable network and poor internet connection, while traveling. So the demand for free Wi-Fi hotspots around the world is exponentially growing.

Most Critical User Insights

research work made it clear that internet users either uses mobile data, shared network, paid roaming service or free wifi while traveling, But the most preferable is the FREE network. I narrowed down the target by profession network preference status. As per the record of 2023 the free wifi hotspot is the most used locations

What's Next

Wi-Finder was technically functional when we presented it to the client, but a few additional steps would be needed to fully realize the design vision.

Most importantly, I'd redesign and test screens for information sharing/community user flows to make it more efficient—everything from receiving a new message, to uploading pictures of a free hotspot location, to claiming a list item and beyond.

Secondly, I'd look deeper into the navigation system, which was out of scope during this MVP design. I'd also want to design and test the ability to split.
